Who We Are

We believe in grit. We believe in ideas that improve the world, and founders who put it all on the line to be the change they want to see in the world. We believe in awareness, boldness, and compassion. We love to win, but care ferociously about the fight. We embrace the struggle, and lean into the good times with inspiring people.

A Little Back Story

Caitlin watched and listened to one of her literary heroes, David Foster Wallace, deliver a mind-altering commencement speech at her 2005 graduation. His message of awareness and the privilege of choice profoundly impacted Caitlin. This Is Water was published posthumously in 2008 and became required reading material for Stuart when the pair first met in 2013. The phrase “this is water” has been an important reminder for Stu and Caitlin to instill empathy in their decision making and strive for greater awareness.

About Caitlin

About Stu

Stuart Landesberg is the Co-Founder of This is Water and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Grove Collaborative, PBC (Public Benefit Corporation). Stu founded Grove, which has been a Certified B Corp since its inception, after learning that offline distribution meant that just a small percentage of families were choosing healthy, sustainable home care products.

Grove is now a market leader in moving the home and personal care sectors towards health and wellness, and in particular away from plastic. Grove's ecommerce platform has done $2 billion in lifetime revenue and since inception has saved over 20 million pounds of plastic from oceans and landfills. After raising over $600 million, Grove went public on the NYSE in 2022. Stu was the CEO through mid 2023. Fun fact: at Grove's IPO, Stu and Caitlin's daughter became the youngest person ever to ring the NYSE opening bell.

Stu was previously an investor in private and public consumer and technology companies at TPG and Toro Investment Partners respectively and has served on various corporate and non-profit Boards over the last two decades. Stu enjoys cycling and running, audiobooks, scrabble, wine and spending time outdoors with his three children.
